THURSDAY WINE TASTING
5:00pm until 7:00pm
Sometimes it’s fun to mix and match, so this tasting features four different wineries from two distinctly different regions. The white wines are from two vineyards in Australia and the red wines are from two vineyards in California.
All of these are highly rated and consistently great quality wines!
2006 SLIPSTREAM SAUVIGNON BLANC, MCLAREN VALE, AUSTRALIA
90 Points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
A terrific Sauvignon Blanc, Slipstream’s 2006 comes from Western Australia’s Pemberton region. Made by the impressive Dan Pannell, it is a tank-fermented and aged effort offering wonderful melony, herbal characteristics that reveal a striking resemblance to a Sancerre. Lovely fruit, crisp acidity, and a mineral/floral component suggest it should be consumed over the next several years.
2007 WOOP WOOP CHARDONNAY, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Winemaker Ben Riggs has made a deliciously fresh and crisp style of Chardonnay, which is well balanced with subtle, ripe tropical fruit character. “...over the last several years, these wines have become very popular because they over-deliver in terms of bang for the buck...”

This is like a gangly teenager, young and a bit inelegant but charming. Shows robust black cherry and spice aromas and blackberry jam and licorice flavors. The tannins firm up the finish. Drink now through 2012. 62,000 cases made. –JL
2006 SAINTSBURY GARNET PINOT NOIR, CARNEROS, CALIFORNIA
“Each year we comb through the numerous barrels of pinot in our cellar to identify those lots that will combine to create an early-drinking, refreshing style of Pinot Noir. Because we have worked with such an array of Carneros vineyards over the years and know well the various vineyard characteristics, microclimates and soils, we already have a good idea of which lots will make up Garnet in any given year. We choose those wines that display precocious raspberry and black cherry fruit, a plump middle and soft ripe tannins to create this delicious, approachable Carneros Pinot Noir.” Winemaker Notes
