WEDNESDAY WINE TASTING
April 23, 2008 -5:00pm until 7:00pm
ORGANIC WINES
Lolonis is a California artisan wine, created with Old World dry farming methods brought over from the family’s village in Greece at the turn of the century. No pesticides or herbicides are used. Ladybugs by the millions control pests, naturally. Our vineyards have been farmed this way for more than forty years. While the essence of Lolonis wines - the fruit - is organic, you may notice the bottle is not labeled “organic wine.” This is no accident. In our experience, the organic winemaking methodology makes a wine that is unstable, and its quality is often suspect. Quality is the highest priority at Lolonis. We stake our well-earned reputation on it. Certainly, a bottle of fine wine is appreciated on so many levels. But the best compliment we hear is “This tastes wonderful! It’s grown organically? Even better.” Lolonis Winery
2005 LOLONIS FUME BLANC, REDWOOD VALLEY, CALIFORNIA
Our Fumé Blanc is made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes which are organically grown on 35-40 year old vines. Stainless fermentation and aging gives it a dry, fruity, full body that is smooth and long on the palate.
Winemaker Notes.
2004 LOLONIS CABERNET SAUVIGNON, REDWOOD VALLEY, CALIFORNIA
One of California’s best Cabernet values, the Redwood Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a delicious, medium rich Cabernet with wonderful character (blueberry, cassis, cedar, spicy oak), excellent balance, and an aftertaste that doesn’t want to let go. A truly stylish wine in the best sense of the word. Winemaker Notes.
There are many reasons to incorporate the farming methods we collectively call "traditional farming" into the way we do business at Frog's Leap. But by far the most important and most exciting to us is reflected in one word - quality. In the Tao it says "what is rooted is easy to nourish". We know that what is well nourished is also more flavorful, better balanced, and longer lived. Wine made from fruit that is more flavorful, better balanced and longer lived is exactly the same - wines that are deeply reflective of the soil and climate from where they come. Something to think about with your next glass. Frog’s Leap Winery
2006 FROG’S LEAP CHARDONNAY, NAPA, CALIFORNIA
The 2006 Frog’s Leap Chardonnay greets you with aromas of green apple and pear layered with delicate notes of honeysuckle. No heavy vanilla or buttery flavors here — rather your palette is greeted with clean, lively flavors of apricot and citrus laced with wet-stone and hazelnut. Balanced by the wine’s acid and low alcohol, the mouth-feel stays bright and clear. Crisp and vibrant, this Chardonnay’s elegant finish begs for another sip — making it a delightfully unexpected food-friendly wine. Winemaker Notes.
2005 FROG’S LEAP MERLOT, NAPA, CALIFORNIA
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This Merlot comes down on the elegant side. It’s not an opulent, hedonistic wine, but one of great structure and architecture. The cherry, berry, orange and herb tea flavors have an edge of dried herbs and tobacco. Distinguished, it should hold for a couple years. — S.H. (2/1/2008)
