WEDNESDAY WINE TASTING
MAY 1, 2008 -5:00pm until 7:00pm
If you like to have white wines available at an outdoor cookout, there are several that compliment spicy and grilled foods. Sauvignon Blancs and Alsace-style Reislings are aromatic, fruity and balanced and are great with Cajun and Thai spices. These light and refreshing wines also go well with grilled fish, tuna and potato salads.
2007 DRYLANDS SAUVIGNON BLANC, MARLBOROUGH, NEW ZEALAND
Drylands Sauvignon Blanc displays the quintessential Marlborough qualities of rich, ripe tropical and herbal flavors. The palate has superb weight and complexity, lingering in a crisp, refreshing finish. As our series of recent awards attest, Drylands Wines really are the pick of Marlborough.
2006 TREFETHEN DRY REISLING, NAPA, CALIFORNIA
Enticing, fragrant aromas of fresh citrus, green apple and peach fruit, accented by lovely honeysuckle and mineral scents. On the graceful palate, the wine's bright, lively, lemon-lime and peach flavors are given added zest by a refreshing minerality that threads through the wine's crisp, lingering finish. Riesling is a wonderful apéritif wine and also beautifully accompanies crab, pork, lean fish and turkey entrées, as well as Asian and Southwestern inspired dishes. Plus, it's absolutely the best wine to sip while cooking!
There are many red wines that go well with burgers and grilled meats. Syrah, with its jammy fruitiness and touch of spiciness would compliment sausages and grilled vegetables. Good Bordeaux’s from St-Emilion pair beautifully with BBQ chicken or ribs. The only trick is to keep the temperature of your red wines from reaching
80+ degrees, being that you’re outdoors!
2004 CHATEAU ROC DE CANDALE, ST-EMILION GRAND CRU, FRANCE
Château Roc de Candale is a lively and concentrated wine offering lush aromas of cherry and vanilla in oak, a layered mouthfeel, good tannic structure and a long, well balanced finish.
2005 BELL WINE CELLARS, SIERRA FOOTHILLS, CALIFORNIA
Our 2005 Syrah exhibits wonderful varietal character. Deep ruby in color with spicy, peppery fruit aromas, the wine has good acidity, with a rich, luscious mouthfeel and soft, elegant tannins. The oak flavors are in balance with the fruit acidity and fruit flavor to yield an appealing wine, bright on the palate, with great depth and concentration. Often described by our guests as “yummy,” this delicious wine is a nice alternative for those seeking a rich, round, well balanced yet softer style wine. A great companion to food, this wine will continue to mature gracefully for many years. Richly flavored and with great concentration, this wine illustrates the great potential of the Canterbury Vineyard.
