THURSDAY WINE TASTING
August 7, 2008 -5:00pm until 7:00pm
2007 Paco & Lola Albariño, Spain
Let yourself be seduced by the aromas of spring and fresh, structured and enveloping flavors. Appearance: Straw yellow color with hints of green in the rim. Clean and brilliant. Nose: Complex with outstanding aromatic intensity. Fine notes of fruit (citrus, green apples), herbaceous notes (basil) and floral base notes. Tasting: Very fresh flavors balanced by lively acidity giving a crisp, attractive taste, good body and a pleasant aroma on the palate. A varietal character that is elegant and persistent. Gorgeous! Food pairing: Paco & Lola is the perfect duo for sushi, fish, seafood, tempura, pasta, risotto and white meats.
2004 Marcel Deiss Reisling, Beblenhein, Alsace
Peach pits and pink grapefruit aromas and flavors emanate from the glass. This is something special, and quite dry, too. A light, amber-gold color in the glass, this wine has an alluring nose with slight petrol aromas and scents of crushed stones and dried herbs. In the mouth it is remarkably bright with acidity and has a compelling, complex set of flavors that slide sexily on the palate. These flavors included a nutty flavor, the slight mustiness of old parchment, bee pollen, and chamomile. The finish is long and ethereal, adding to the slightly otherworldly quality of this very unique wine that is difficult to describe, but not to enjoy.
2005 Stonestreet Chardonnay, Alexander Valley
Complex aromas filled the glass and alerted the taste buds to perk up and await the first sip. Baked apples and butterscotch notes filled the glass and flowed across the palette on the first sip. Like waves on the beach the flavors would arrive with an intensity and slowly wash over the tongue and than a new flavors would emerge. Pineapple and peach flavors along with a creaminess framed the apple notes. A great Chardonnay without too much oak, perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of acidity to balance the fruit.
2005 Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva, Chile
Our Cabernet Sauvignon has a floral, fruity nose, with notes of violet and yeast. The wine is medium bodied on the palate. Red and black cherry and tangy plum characters are complemented by plentiful spice and a background of vanilla, toast, and strawberry jam. A mineral note comes through on the finish. The wine is made in a style ideal for early consumption, though it should hold well in the bottle for a few years after the vintage. Winemakers notes.
2004 Arceno Prima Voce, Tuscana, Italy
Inviting aromas of chocolate, ripe cherries and exotic spices lead into subtle floral notes of lavender and dusty rose. On the palate, lush fruit reminiscent of cherry pie fills the mouth, giving way to an endless finish of licorice, black pepper and cedar. Food pairings: Sausage with spicy green beans, pasta Bolognese, game hens with pomegranates. Winemaker notes.
