[Description] => Sizzle to the beat of the "Junkyard Saints", enjoy Cajun cuisine, stroll Bourbon St, silent auction, King and Queen crowning ceremony. Advanced ticker purchase necessary; formal black tie.
Lights! Camera! Action! United Way of Calvert County’s Mardi Gras celebration is Southern Maryland’s exclusive red carpet event, continuing to attract glamorous costumed revelers out to dance and dine the night away along the streets of New Orleans at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Live music by the Junkyard Saints…antics of jugglers, magicians and mimes…spellbinding belly dancers…gourmet Cajun and Creole cuisine from Maryland Country Caterers…elaborate King and Queen crowning ceremony…live and silent auction and Maerten’s jewelry raffle are all a part of the maelstrom of magic and mayhem that is Mardi Gras. HOW IT BEGAN What began in 2000 as a cocktail reception held in the Show Place Arena ballrooms to raise money for United Way of Calvert County’s capital campaign, has now evolved into a much anticipated annual fundraiser to benefit its Community Impact Fund, supporting local programs that are improving lives and making a difference. Longtime United Way supporters John and Diane Smith held the first title for Mardi Gras King and Queen. The following year three couples volunteered to compete for the title of King and Queen of Mardi Gras by raising the most funds to support United Way. In the years since, the candidate couples have led a frenzy of fundraising activities that have taken place during the months of campaigning for King and Queen, including silent auctions, motorcycle raffles, dinner/dances, bunco nights, and soccer tournaments to name a few. We have been very fortunate to gain valuable partners and board members from this lively group of community leaders. [Description] => Musical: February 26 - March 21Music by Leonard Bernstein; Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; Book by Arthur LaurentsFeaturing one of the great Musical Dance scores of all time, this epic musical took Broadway to the mean streets of Hell's Kitchen. The innocence and joy of first love explodes when caught in a duel between rival street gangs. While sparked by diminishing opportunity, this rivalry is driven by racial and cultural tension. The Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang, grapple with the difficulties of assimilating into American society. The Jets, descendants of previous immigrants, resist the newcomers. Jet member, Tony, falls in love with a beautiful Sharks' girl, Maria. This forbidden love escalates the jeers and posturing to explosive crescendos with frightening consequences. This production marked Sondheim's Broadway debut and his lyrics for Bernstein's magnificent score produced a towering score of hits including: The Jet Song, Something's Coming, Maria, Cool, Tonight, I Feel Pretty, Officer Krupke, A Boy Like That, Somewhere.

Theater Event
“Spirited... delightful... meticulous direction...” ~ New York Post
Get carried away by Pirates! Join the band of swashbuckling buccaneers, bumbling British bobbies, frolicsome Victorian maidens, and the delightfully dotty “model of a modern Major-General” for a rollicking romp over the rocky coast of Cornwall. This exuberant musical theater masterpiece, directed and conducted by Albert Bergeret with choreography by Bill Fabris, is performed in its original format by the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players. The rich sounds of full orchestra, chorus, and legitimate vocal soloists resonate with classic elegance and power while the company’s vibrancy, energy and contemporary sense of humor keep the show alive and exciting to a modern audience.
Be careful! The Pirates of Penzance will steal your heart away!

[Description] => It is a lifelong musical journey from the dreamy innocence of ìNever Never Landî to the world-weary delusion of ìSomething Cool.î Yet, Jane Monheit, now firmly established as one of the post-millennial jazz worldís foremost vocalists, has managed to make the trip in just eight years. In 2000, Monheit chose the sweet, escapist Peter Pan lullaby as the title tune for her debut album. Now, with The Lovers, the Dreamers and Me, her sophomore release for Concord (following 2006ís sumptuous Surrender), she is plumbing the gin-soaked escapism of the heartrending tune made famous by June Christy in 1953.But ìSomething Coolî is just one of several tracks on The Lovers, the Dreamers and Me, Monheitís widest-ranging and most accomplished album to date, that suggest the honey-voiced chanteuse is ushering in an artistic era of heightened sagacity and maturity. She also navigates the dark corners of Tommy Wolf and Fran Landesmanís poignant ìThe Ballad of the Sad Young Men,î delivers a superlative interpretation of Paul Simonís bittersweet ìI Do It for Your Loveî and embraces such contemporary songwriters as Corrine Bailey Rae (ìLike A Starî) and Fiona Apple (ìSlow Like Honeyî). ìI was,î confesses Monheit, ìobsessed with Fiona Appleís first record when I was in college, and thatís the album that song is from. I thought it was interesting to do it and ìLike A Starî because both are by female songwriters who are almost exactly my age, and theyíre songs I really love. Iím always doing songs from the Great American Songbook by long-dead composers, mostly male. Standards are still where my heart is, but itís great to go beyond that.îAnd, of course, The Lovers, the Dreamers and Me, produced by Matt Pierson, does include a rich assortment of jazz and pop classics, ranging from Cole Porter (ìGet Out of Townî) and Jimmy Dorsey (ìIím Glad There Is Youî) to Leonard Bernstein (ìLucky to Be Meî). Nor does Monheit ignore her deep adoration for Brazilian gems, adding Ivan Linsí ìAcasoî (ìNo Tomorrowî) and the effervescent samba ìA Primeira Vezî to her recorded repertoire. The albumís powerful, glorious maturity can, Monheit agrees, be linked to the fact that the past year has been a significant one for her, with the celebration of her 30th birthday and the birth of her and husband Rick Montalbanoís first child, a son named Jack. ìBecause Iím a little older,î she explains, ìI did something different with this record. In the past, I always chose tunes that were very truthful to me and would be believable coming from a woman of my age. But for this album, I decided to step out and play a few characters and sing some lyrics that arenít necessarily from my own life experience, but that Iím now mature enough to understand.î

[Description] => This festival is an art and craft show. We do accept a limited number of vendors, but the main emphasis is showcasing handmade items. The festival also includes food items with many booths offering food tasting and sampling. The Music Boosters also run a concession stand with very reasonably priced food. The Madrigal Singers perform throughout the different rooms of the show. For this show, we are hoping to also have the jazz band perform in the commons area on Saturday.
We run a very well-organized show. We are former crafters and try to accomodate the requests of our participants.
The show is an srt, craft, and vendor put on by the Music Booster organization for the enefit of the music programs at Stagg High School. Being former crafters, we do our best to accomodate our participants. The show is well-organized and well-run. The Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festival was established in 2003. The enthusiasm of over 2000 attendees each year was so contagious that we now present this fantastic event twice each year – in March and November. Several VENDOR opportunities are available for our next festival which will be held on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Roberts Convention Centre in Wilmington, Ohio. The Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festival features nationally known acoustic music groups including pioneers of Bluegrass music as well as a sampling of the up and coming bluegrass bands. Our goal annually is to always feature Bluegrass, Old-time and Gospel music, combined with family fun and educational opportunities in an entertaining, smoke and alcohol free environment. The Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festival is sponsored by WBZI, WEDI and WKFI Radio stations and hosted at the Roberts Convention Centre located at the intersection of US 68 and I-71 at exit 50 which is less than an hour drive from Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus. More than a convention center, the Roberts Centre includes a Holiday Inn Hotel, Max and Erma’s Restaurant, RV parking as well as state of the art facilities for hosting our annual INDOOR music event. Make your plans now to join us on March 27 and 28, 2009. We welcome the opportunity to forge a promotional partnership with many quality businesses that could benefit by presenting their product and services to our audience of over 2000 enthusiastic fans. Opportunities are limited for vendor spaces so please let us coordinate your participation as soon as possible. [Description] => To further nurture the friendship and exchange of Japanese Culture, in 1982, Maxell (a previous local Japanese manufacturing company) along with the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, held the first Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival. In 1997, the festival moved to the Georgia International Horse Park in order to accommodate the growth in size and attendance.

From that simple beginning, the two-day contemporary art festival has grown to include 300 artist and crafter booths, a variety of food booths and entertainment from diverse cultures generally attracting an estimated 40,000 guests over the weekend. Festival goers enjoy free admission into the festival with a $5 parking fee. The festival continues to grow and strives for excellence each year. For three consecutive years, the festival was awarded “Best Festival in the Southeast” by the Southeast Festivals and Events Kaleidoscope Awards, an affiliate of the International Festivals and Events Association. The festival was also named a Top 20 Event in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society for two consecutive years. Scheduled during the blooming of the beautiful Yoshino Cherry Trees, the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival brings the community together focusing on cultural understanding and friendship through art, music, dance, crafts, food and entertainment.

As is customary in Japan, everyone gathers together to celebrate the blooming of the cherry trees. We invite you to join us in our spring celebration to make the 2010 festival the best yet!

[Entertainment] => The festival features two stages of entertainment with cultural performances, local bands, clogging, demonstrations, chorus groups, and more!
[Activities] => Shop among hundreds of unique art and craft exhibitors.
Watch cultural performances, dances, live bands and more on one of the festival stages.
Eat in the international food court.
Play in the large, interactive Children's Area.
Children can make their own craft projects at the free arts and crafts tent sponsored by Stone Mountain Ministries.
Mens special interests are entertained in Mans Land.
Enjoy two days blooming with fun and excitement!
