[Description] => The Addams FamilyA New MusicalMay 22 - 26, 2012 Tickets From: $32Subscribe now!The weird and wonderful family created by The New Yorker cartoonist Charles Addams comes to devilishly delightful life in a Broadway musical. THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story and is an Addams Family portrait you've never seen before: Gomez, all mad impetuosity; Morticia, equal parts fire and ice; Fester, restless and romantic; Pugsley, for whom immediate gratification can't come soon enough and Wednesday, eighteen years old and finally feeling what it means to be a woman. A family that's quite shockingly, and endearingly, just like yours. This magnificently macabre new show is created by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, Drama Desk-winning composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), choreographer Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys), and Olivier Award-winning director/designers Phelim McDermott & Julian Crouch (Shockheaded Peter), and features lighting by Tony Award-winning designer Natasha Katz (Aida), sound design by Acme Sound Partners (In the Heights) and puppetry by acclaimed Obie Award Winner Basil Twist (Arias With A Twist).

[Description] => Press release:Square Peg Events announces next installment in Artful Dining Series   “Jackson Pollock’s Painting Party” slated for May 25 at New Holland Brewing Co.    HOLLAND, MI — Square Peg Events announces “Jackson Pollock’s Painting Party,” the next installment of the Artful Dining Series, a sequence of art-enhanced dinners combining food, art and ambience inspired by the work of some of the great art masters and the periods and cultures from whence they hailed.   Hosted by downtown Holland’s New Holland Brewing Co. Restaurant & Pub, 66 E. Eighth St., the evening will immerse participants in the art and culture of American pop artist Jackson Pollock’s rollicking 1950s Americana groove scene. Pollock (1912–1956) was an influential American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement.   Guests will enjoy a 1950s-style barbecue picnic ready for the grazing, beer sampling, music and ambience from Pollock’s world and have an opportunity to create art in the style of his famed splash paintings using a variety of methods and media.   “The Artful Dining experience is about emersion of all the senses into the artist, his region and era. The three main components are the cuisine, the art and the ambiance,” said Cynthia Hagedorn, owner and creative director of Square Peg Events, who will present insights into Pollock, his work and world, and facilitate the art creations.   “I’ll talk about Pollock, but it’s not a lecture; it’s a party. The event will be very interactive within the group, very casual, and kind of out-of-the-box. It’s a great value — for 40 bucks, you get food, drinks, art, music and camaraderie,” Hagedorn said.   “You don’t have to be an artist to come. This is just an event for anyone who wants to enjoy a great night of art and fun,” she said.   Shawna Cantu, assistant general manager and “director of chaos’ left-hand gal” at New Holland Brewing Co., said the cuisine will embody “a backyard barbecue with a gourmet flair,” including beer floats, sliders, brats and other period specialties paired with some of the brewpub’s unique line of popular craft beers and spirits.   “Our tagline is ‘art in fermented form,’ so this is a great event to bring different kinds of art together and show how painting, music, beer, spirits and food all relate to one another,” Cantu said.   Hagedorn said participants are invited to dress in 1950s garb, if they’re so inclined.   “The evening is a broad, blank canvas — you can make it whatever you want. You can dress, you can paint, you can enjoy the music, eat and drink.” Tickets for Jackson Pollock’s Painting Party are $40 per guest and can be purchased at New Holland Brewing Co. or online at www.squarepegevents.com. Seating is limited to 40 guests. Advance reservations required; no door sales.   Additional planned installments of the Artful Dining Series include “More with Moore,” “Renoir's Luncheon at the Boating Party,” “Monet's Garden Party,” Michelangelo’s Ceiling,” “Ansel Adams,” “Frieda Kahlo's Fiesta!” and “Picasso’s Perfect Holiday.”   FOR MORE INFORMATION: Square Peg Events, LLC Cynthia Hagedorn, Owner/Creative Director 194-½ S. Sumter's Iris Festival is South Carolina's oldest continuous festival and is ranked among the top festivals in the Southeast. The 3-day festival includes concerts, an arts and crafts show, a golf tournament, a flower show, a food tasting, the crowning of the Iris Festival king and queen, and a number of contests and children's activities. Sumter's Swan Lake-Iris Gardens -- the main staging area for the Iris Festival -- is home to all eight types of the world's swans including swans from Asia, Australia, England and South America. As the festival has gained popularity, it has become a favorite stopping place for bus tours from all over the U.S. and Canada and has been covered in "Southern Living" magazine. The annual event receives prominent news and advertising coverage in major newspapers, radio and television stations as well as on the world-wide Web.
Thousands of Japanese irises in full bloom provide a picturesque backdrop for this festival. Events include food fair, health and fitness fair, beauty pageants, a \"Gateway to Gardening,\" flower shows, music and fun for the entire family! Free admission. [Entertainment] => Balticon 46 will feature continuous multi-track programming throughout the 4-day weekend plus fixed functions such as Art show, Anime Room, Dealers Room, Video Room, Computer Gaming Room etc... Our goal is to reawaken the sense of wonder that originally brought you to SF/F. We constantly seek ideas from fan clubs and news-groups and conduct brain-storm sessions to generate fresh new topics and "twisted" spins on old ideas. If you have interesting ideas for new panels and presentations, please contact us by February 15th at programming@balticon.org!

Panel discussions with SF professionals (writers, artists, agents, etc.), informal discussions among devoted fans, skill demonstrations, readings and performances are included. Every cultural art form related to Science fiction and fantasy will be brought out, dusted off and given a beautiful shine through our interactive program.

LITERARY:

Balticon program participants with qualifications as authors, editors and publishers will explore varied themes in SF literature through panel debates, author readings and personal autograph session interaction. Everything from philosophical debates, story crafting tips, publishing advice, science speculation and historical perspectives will flow. Reviewers and Fan group officers will review and discuss work and its place in the genre to help you find new literature suited to your taste. Multiple literary program tracks make this the core of Balticon programming.

COSTUME PROGRAMMING:

An entire track of costume programming with items of interest to beginners and experienced alike. Learn how to create an exterior casing that reflects your soul or at least your sense of humor. And of course we have a Masquerade competition.

ART PROGRAMMING:

Our art programming features demos and classes with several popular artists. Bring your sketchbook! Sign up for our Artist's Workshops.

SCIENCE PROGRAMMING:

Balticon 46 will offer over 30 hours of original science programming. Meet the scientists and attend fascinating panels. In addition to our esteemed Science GoH Dr. Phillips, we welcome back Dr. Richard Holtz and astronomer Pamela Gay.

YOUNG FANS

Games, projects and stories for children ages 4-12 to inspire your kids to appreciate the convention experience. This is not daycare; parents retain full responsibility for children during this program. Kids will put on a skit play, have their own filk, learn to draw from an artist, hunt for treasure, hear Silly Interactive Stories, enter a legos contest and have great fun!

FILK:

Balticon promises another exciting program of filk concerts and panels, plus open filk all three nights. A feature we're expanding this year is that we will be utilizing the Con Suites center area for late night dancing to live music Friday and Saturday nights. For more filk announcements/info, watch the Balticon LiveJournal Community, email the filk alias, or check "filk" on the registration form.

NEW MEDIA:

There's a whole wonderful world of non-traditional media available and, like last year, we're bringing you more than just podcasting. Come and meet local artists and writers from the world of web comics and many other fascinating people leading the new media explosion. Learn more about what's available in independent new media and how to turn it to your advantage. Don't let your work be lost in the shadows: find your audience! Balticon was the first con to run New Media programming and have its own dedicated podcast, which makes ours the longest running New Media track.

Her books includes the 3-volume Keeper's Chronicles, 4-volume Quarters series, the Wizard Crystal series, The Blood Books (which were adapted for for television under the title Blood Ties and aired on the Lifetime channel in the US) and their follow-up Smoke and Shadows series, and the books of the Valor Confederation in which Staff Sergeant Torin Kerr's aim is to keep both her superiors and her company of space marines alive as they deal with lethal missions throughout the galaxy.

    [Description] =>
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Massachusetts Sheep and Woolcraft Fair. One of the oldest of all the New England sheep fairs, the Cummington fair is a fun and affordable way to spend a day with family and friends discovering one of the oldest industries in the world. Shepherds, spinners, weavers, and other fiber artists come from all over the Northeast to demonstrate their skills and sell their handmade fiber products. But the sheep are the real stars of it all, and there will be hundreds of them attending, both meat and wool breeds. They will be joined by a host of other fiber animals, including angora rabbits and goats, llamas, and maybe even a yak or two! Other festival highlights include sheep dog trials, spinning and weaving contests, a fleece sale, fiber workshops, a shearing service, live music, and workshops for kids. Breakfast and lunch items will be available at the food booth, including the popular lamb bits. [Description] => One of the biggest and best juried arts shows in the country, the Patriot News Artsfest presents an array of visual and performance art from around the country. Over 250 artists attend the event, exhibiting paintings, photography, fiber art, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, furniture, and more. Additional events include a film festival, demonstration artists, live music, gourmet foods, a children's festival, and a silent auction.
It is really quite fun putting all the components of Artsfest together. For many, the artists are their main concern… we understand people save all year to purchase art for their home or for that special birthday gift. It is no easy task to select the artists that bless us with their talents. Here at the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council, the first thing we have to do is get the artists to apply for exhibition space. With the word out about what a great arts festival we have here in Harrisburg, we were deluged with applications from artists and craftsmen across the United States. Artist applications are mailed in October of previous year. In January we hire expert jurors and they select the accepted artists from the thousands of slides submitted for entry into the Patriot-News Artsfest. The next thing we have to accomplish is to select the signature art is to represent the festival. We work with our title sponsor… the terrific Patriot-News, to pick a piece of art from the thousands of submitted slides. The logo art will be featured in all of Artsfest’s advertisements, volunteer tee shirts, billboards, artist postcards and festival guides.
For three days along the banks for the Susquehanna River in Riverfront Park, visitors can stroll through various arts and crafts exhibits by renowed artists from across the U.S. Art lovers are sure to gaze upon something truly wonderous and one-of-a-kind. Enjoy some of your favorite festival foods, hands-on crafts for kids and various genres of music played by regional musicians. Hosted by the Arts Council. [Entertainment] =>
We have it all. From funk to jazz- it’s at this year’s Artsfest. Check out the extensive schedule. Three major stages are almost enough to be overwhelming, but if you pace yourself you can take in a lot in three days. The free musical entertainment is all run by Artsfest chairs from the community. There are non stop hourly performances at the Kunkel Plaza Stage at Front and State Streets and The Walkin’ Bridge Stage between Walnut and Locust Streets under the shade trees of Riverfront Park. Our third stage is in Kidsfest. Through the artist market, take a break to listen to your favorite artist market performers….once again FREE and superb all throughout the festival site. [Activities] =>
The festival not only has one of the best artist markets in the country but it also includes a delightful children’s festival at the southern end of the Festival. [Description] => May Day Fairie Festival at
Spoutwood Farm Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing people and nature together, presents: The Annual May Day Fairie Festival, GLEN ROCK, PA
April 30 will be Children’s Day at the festival and we encourage families, schools, Scout groups and daycares to come beat the big weekend crowds! Admission is $10, kids under 12 - $5 and free for those under 2.  Those who decide to volunteer when they arrive at the Festival can request a 2-hour job assignment; upon completion, the admission fee will be refunded.  For more information and pre-registration, visit our website and click on the Volunteer link.
Spoutwood Farm is just outside of Glen Rock, PA, 45 minutes north of Baltimore, 30 minutes south of York, PA. Parking will be available on the same road as the Festival for a $4 fee. Please note: There will be no parking at the High School as in previous years.
The May Day Fairie Festival is the brainchild of Rob and Lucy Wood, owners of Spoutwood Farm, an organic farm in the Community Supported Agriculture movement. It began as a party for about 100 friends, and was last year celebrated by nearly 10,000 “friends” of the Little People from the area and as far away as Scotland.  Previously a one-day festival, a second and (this year) third day was added as a response to the Festival’s rising popularity.
Once again, the Festival will celebrate the ripening of Spring and all of the Nature Spirits return to the Warm World with over 80 arts and crafts vendors (mostly featuring handmade art inspired by the Little People), performances by Celtic musicians and dancers, participatory Maypole Dancing accompanied by bagpipes, Coronation of the King and Queen of May, pony rides, Fairie craft activities such as Fairie Wand and Garland Making (involves a small fee), food vendors, Fairie and other Nature Spirit environments to explore, a Natureplace offering a place for environmental, health, animal and other groups to share their vision, Woodland Gnome and Elf tours, Fairie Tea Parties, guest appearances by the Green Man, Sweet Pea, Posie, and other Celebrefairies. There will be a photo area for parents who bring their own cameras to photograph their kids with Celebrefairies.
Families attending this event have discovered that this event is not just for kids! And indeed, in keeping with the Festival tradition, the first 100 persons, whether child or adult, who come in Nature Spirit costume will receive a free bag of FAIRIE DUST, with which to magically transform their friends, family, pets, etc.  The Fairie and May Day themes go back to ancient times in almost all cultures, especially to the Celts of the British Isles who had a festival on the first of May called Beltane. It was a time of great rejoicing at the return of the earth's abundance in spring and the impending bounty of summer. The Celts celebrated the spirits of nature by honoring not only the plants that they could see and smell but also the unseen beings of the fairie realm.  Today throughout the world there is a REVIVAL of these traditional celebrations.
