| | I work out of my home in Phoenix. I am married and have 2 young children. I engrave custom art & gifts. I sell at Celtic Festivals, Renaissance Festivals and traditional art shows.
I am glad that we have an Arizona group. Our season is so much different from most others around the country. We definitely have to travel to sell in the summer time. I hope more of you join up. |

Great to See you here. - 2007/10/30 - Purse Stuff
Hi Amy. It\'s great to see you here. I think others will join us once they figure out there is a GROUP function available here at Craftlister.com.
Many folks use the EVENTS feature and don\'t get around to exploring all the rest of the wonderful functions of this site. Maybe we can educate them a litte.
I thought maybe the GROUPS would be a little busier since the FORUMS are being worked on. Anyway, glad to see you here.
Hope I can figure out how this GROUPS function works LOL

Holday Boutique - My House - 2007/11/21 - Amy Schulz
I need 2 more vendors for my open house/holiday boutique in North Phoenix. It is my first year. I live in a very nice area, though. I contacted my customer list plus will put out signs and fliers. I am charging $15 (or $7 if you contribute a door prize). This will include a table space and you will get to eat the yummy food too.
Contact me at orders@happymagpie.com if you are interested. Please include a couple of pictures of your art/craft.
Newsletter - Yahoo Groups - 2007/11/24 - Purse Stuff
I am not adept when it comes to computer - especially websites. In fact, they scare me and have been the subject of many a nightmare. My fabrics come & go / In & Out of inventory rather quickly and website would be a constant update. I just don\'t know if I have the energy and time to devote to a website.
So, I decided to start a group at Yahoo Groups. When shoppers stop in to see me at my shows, I will offer to put them on the mailing list. I see this as something I can manage! I see this as being a simple newsletter. Maybe a few pics of new fabrics listed in the photo section. Heck, I might even get some new product developed and be able to show and tell my customers about it.
Anyway, that\'s all for me. Just thought I would update you folks on what I\'m trying to do to keep in touch with my customers.

SuperBowl? - 2008/01/07 - Amy Schulz
Any of you doing shows in conjunction with the superbowl? I am probably going to sign up for one in that area.

Hi Amy,
I hadn\'t given it much thought. But your message has planted the seed.
Where is the show you are thinking about doing?
Have you done it before?
Please tell us about it.

Glendale Shows - 2008/01/20 - Purse Stuff
I have looked at doing a couple Glendale shows. I believe the City of Glendale is the promoter. On the applications they are showing a $60 fee for \"\"\"Background Check\"\"\". Does anyone know what this \'background check\' is? No where on the app does it ask for Social Secuity #, Date of Birth, or any other identifying information. It appears to be a standard, run of the mill boring application.
What\'s with the $60.00 fee for background check for City of Glendale Shows? Ideas / info appreciated.
Re; Glendale Shows - 2008/01/20 - Amy Schulz
They do require a yearly background check done. I don\'t recommend any of their shows. They are very expensive for the crowd you get. This is one of the few places that people told me my wares were too expensive, the only place I was purposefully ripped off, the only place I had to worry about gangs. The people that sold a lot had cheap b/s stuff. Don\'t waste your time or your money.
Pretty blunt, but I never plan on working with them again, so there you go.
The promoters do a good job, but the area is not good.
Hello 2009 - 2009/01/08 - Purse Stuff
This group has been so quiet I thought I would give a review of 2008. 2008 sales were, for the most part, dismal for me. I do, however, take a large responsibility for those dismal sales. I can not place 100% blame on the economy. In April, I broke my foot and badly damaged my ankle. I was functioning at 10% vs 100%. For awhile I used crutches and wheelchair. The walking boot is difficult to get around in, but much better than just crutches! New product did not get developed. Inventory did not get produced so I could hit the fall show circuit the way I wanted to. I suppose I am sounding like a cry baby. I am not crying. My broken foot taught me a lot. I learned to work smarter in my studio. Accepting assistance was something I didn't need and would not accept...until the broken foot. I learned gratitude and to be grateful for what I received and to accept my capabilities for what they were. Being new to Arizona, I met so many new people and made new exhibitor friends. I LOVE the people of Arizona. 99.99% of the promoters I worked with are top notch people and worked hard to put on a good event. Yes, 2008 was quite a year for me. It was not exactly what I had planned - but it was interesting, a learning experience, and an opportunity for personal growth. And...I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO 2009. Bring it on - I am ready. Pending Approval 2008 review - 2009/01/08 - Amy Schulz
Early in 2008, I was still experimenting a bit with types of shows/festivals. So, the beginning of the year was not very good except for the 1 show that was a Renaissance Festival which is my main type of show now. They work well for me and my product and I have been able to focus my line to this style of venue. There is nothing stopping me from doing a regular art show, but I like to have the focus as it reduces custom orders and I just seem to make more money this way. I have a great middle of the year minus the shows I missed due to a new health problem that popped up in 2008.
Having a health issue and other stresses, I got further and further behind on everything, business and personal. This put me in a position of high stress and a huge deadline before Christmas. I canceled the last couple of shows for the year so that I could finish my Christmas orders and not kill myself doing it and shows. So, the books are a bit out of whack by not having any income the last month and a half of 2008.
I am mostly caught up on orders, I have to catch up on paperwork, I am healthier now too. I am quite hopeful for 2009. Though things do not technically start over just because the date changed, I am still quite hopeful for this year. I have goals in place and my shows lined up for the 1st quarter of the year and know exactly where I will be applying for the remainder. I have several shows that I will repeat due to good sales. I have a couple of new shows to try out that are in my genre. I will be traveling a bit farther away to do quality shows. I have a wonderful "new" van and enclosed trailer to keep me and my merchandise safe.
New Years Resolution: Every day make something for my booth or a customer or do paperwork. Every day clean part of my house. Every day have fun with my children. This should reduce my stress in the long run and make me happier and more successful.
