Don't you step over that deadline!
How do you deal with a promoter who you can't contact after you mailed in your application and haven't heard back yet for a show that is coming us quick!
I'm hearing this about a LOT of promoters right now. i think many took vacation trips since they are so cheap with no one traveling and this being the season promoters and crafters can. Even my parents left by minivan last week for their first month-long road trip. My father did say that many shows that we normally have apps for by now that have not only not sent them out but that are not answering his multiple letters in query.
This delay is not normal, but is part of a growing trend of everything getting closer to the deadline:
Promoters' blank Apps are not mailed until the last minute any more.
Many promoters are not cashing checks or sending confirmations until the last minute.
And
Crafters filled-out apps are not received until the last minute any more.
Another possibility is some shows may be teeter-tottering over canceling or continuing. There have been about 50 events I know of that are canceling this year, but that is out of thousands. If you know of such an event or are one, Contact ME!!! http://www.CraftLister.com/contact I will help the event for free with mailing labels, local craft contact info, and an upgraded listing. Help me help the industry we all need!
One Exhibitors Words: There are many events that I keep calling but get no response to my messages left. How can promoters run shows this way and how can I get them to send me an application?
Site Response: That is, sadly, just the way it is... many promoters are volunteers, etc. many are elderly... Another point is that promoters prefer written requests for apps too as it's just easier for them.
One Promoter's Words: Even though the participants have access to our web site, plus I often send out applications and information about show dates & locations via postal mail, I still end up with the majority of what I’ve termed, “call in’s”. Those who wait until the last minute who decide that they want to do the show because: 1) they now have the money in hand which they didn’t want to invest in the show before, 2) the weather is looking good - that’s important because if they prepay and the weather is horrid for the show, they are out that money 3) they had another show cancel 4) they have decided they can and want, to work that weekend. - Needless to say, they can convince the promoter on the phone that they have great quality merchandise, some have stated it is hand made, and even with the determent of paying the past the deadline fee, they are verbally accepted in to the event. This had happened to me for our recent December event. I let them in and lo and behold, nothing but buy/sell in which I have been terribly criticized for.
CraftLister.com's Response: I have a solution to accepting last minute vendors and maintaining quality but no one seems interested.
CraftLister.com's FREE Exhibitor Ratings of a crafter can be done all online and approved in a single day! More info or get your rating today: http://www.craftlister.com/exhibitor_ratings/
Promoters can trust that our ratings of any exhibitors that do wait to the last minute will reflect what actually arrives.
http://www.craftlister.com/exhibitor_ratings/
This rating program is honestly an effort to globally clean up the art and craft show industry of buy/sell. It has the potential to take the threat out of allowing in a applicant who you yourself have not been to the studio of. Out rating approval process is so stringent that you will feel like you have been to their workshop after you see their online collection of uploaded, rating-validation photos.
I am going to be making additional upgrades to the Exhibitor Rating system to allow events to have an automated online jurying area. Their applicants could upload their photos for free and be certified as hand-made by CraftLister.com for free – this info would then be made available to the promoter and their Jury for their selections. If you are an interested event, PLEASE contact me! http://www.CraftLister.com/contact and I will start you off with an account.
